He is a distinguished medical scientist known as one of the inventors of artificial cells. His research has resulted in the routine clinical applications of artificial cells in dialysis and hemoperfusion with a myriad of other possible uses. Director of the Artificial Organs Research Centre at McGill University, he has an international reputation reflected in the more than 200 invited lectureships he has received throughout the world.
