After studying at the University of Toronto and interning in New York and Edinburgh, he turned to plasticsurgery. Joining the Air Force in 1939, he became principal medical officer at headquarters in London. Later, inhis hospital at East Grinstead, he treated and rehabilitated severely burned airmen. On his return to Toronto hebecame a consultant and at Queen's University he was the first in Canada to give courses in plastic surgery. Hehas maintained close contact with his war-time "Guinea Pigs" who in 1974 erected a plaque in his honour at EastGrinstead.
