Marie Wilson has made an outstanding contribution to the development of the
Northwest Territories. An award-winning journalist and later director of CBC North,
she was influential in developing televised news programming created by and for
Aboriginal people, notably by offering services in Inuktitut and other Indigenous
languages. A senior executive of federal and territorial Crown corporations, she was
appointed one of three commissioners of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
in 2009, where her ability to distill complex issues into readily understandable terms
helped to put survivors at ease.
