From November 20 to 23, 2009, Captain Udesen displayed courage and front line leadership in the aftermath of two improvised explosive device attacks and ensuing enemy ambushes in the Panjwayi district of Afghanistan. Remaining calm, he organized and led two successful counterattacks, winning the firefights and clearing the enemy positions. Captain Udesen’s tactical acumen, composure under fire and remarkable abilities as a soldier was critical to the defeat of the enemy and brought great credit to the Canadian Forces and to Canada.
