After a section of the allied defensive line was attacked and overrun by enemy forces, Major Ward advanced with a small team and took control of a highly volatile and uncertain situation. He provided unwavering guidance to his team while simultaneously advising and assisting allied commanders in order to regain the initiative and re-establish the defensive line. Major Ward’s personal leadership solidified relations at the tactical level and resulted in unprecedented recognition of Canadian national support.
