Meritorious Service Medal (civil division)

A librarian and lecturer in economics at the University of Windsor, Tad Venkateswarlu founded, in 1992, the Educational Organization for Orphans and Handicapped Children, which provides free education and residential facilities to needy children in India. The organization’s main project is a residential school in Tenali, where more than 150 abandoned, physically disabled and orphaned children learn marketable skills such as sewing, carpentry, dairy farming and pottery. Through his personal involvement, Mr. Venkateswarlu has contributed directly to the well-being of underprivileged children in India, and has brought great credit to himself and to Canada.
