Since 2003, Josephine Mandamin has undertaken an annual walk around each of the Great Lakes to advocate for conservation and for access to clean water. Known as the “Water Walker,” she has inspired others to follow in her footsteps and has enhanced mutual respect and understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
