As a driving force behind the Passchendaele Society 1917, Erwin Ureel has been honouring the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers who fought in Belgium during the First World War, particularly during the Battle of Passchendaele. Recognized as an important partner by Canadian authorities, he is credited with the creation of the Passchendaele Annual Ceremony, as well as the Alex Decoteau Remembrance Run, which takes place on former battlefields to commemorate the sacrifices of Indigenous Canadian soldiers.
