In 2005, following an improvised explosive device strike against elements of the Royal Canadian Dragoons D Squadron on September 15 and a suicide bombing attack against the Afghanistan national army on September 28, Sergeant Tingley led the coalition forces’ immediate response. On both occasions, he demonstrated fortitude and composure in the midst of carnage and chaotic conditions, while rendering on-scene security and assistance to those who were injured. Sergeant Tingley’s professionalism brought great credit to him and to the Canadian Forces.
