Medal of Bravery
On July 20, 1996, Glen MacNicol and David Watson rescued a co-worker who was transformed into a human torch following an electrical explosion at a pulp mill in Gold River, British Columbia. Alerted by the screams, Messrs. MacNicol and Watson rushed inside the smoke-filled wood-chipper room, threw the victim to the ground and, with bare hands, smothered the flames that consumed his body. Despite third-degree burns to their own hands, Messrs. MacNicol and Watson dragged the severely injured victim outside the burning room where others provided assistance. Mr. MacNicol then grabbed a fire extinguisher and returned in the room to fight the fire.
