Medal of Bravery
On December 21, 1997, Marion MacLellan, assisted by Lindsay Woodin, rescued her six-year-old daughter from a house fire in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Awakened by the fire, Mrs. MacLellan grabbed her five-year-old son and stumbled to her neighbour's house for help to save her young daughter who had remained in an upstairs bed. Mr. Woodin rushed back to the house with her and climbed the stairs towards the whimpering child but was forced back by the thick, toxic smoke. His head covered with a blanket, he was trying again to locate the child when Mrs. MacLellan rushed past him at the stop of the stairs. She returned, walking backwards with the little girl in her arms and collapsed down the stairs. Mr. Woodin grabbed the little girl and helped Mrs. MacLellan out of the house. Both Mrs. MacLellan and her daughter suffered burns during this ordeal.
