On January 8, 1995, Mr. Warnock saved a woman and two children from the freezing waters of the St. Lawrence River at Verdun, Quebec. Seeing a woman and a little girl being swept along in the frigid water, he jumped in without hesitation. He grabbed the child and brought her back to the edge where he pushed her onto the ice. He then swam back to the semi-conscious woman and dragged her to the edge, where bystanders helped them out. Realizing only then that another young girl was being carried away by the river some ninety metres away, Mr. Warnock, although exhausted, immediately jumped in again and swam out. Holding the girl above the water, he made it back to shore where others administered first aid.
