Medal of Bravery
On June 20, 1993, Messrs. Groulx and Robert tried to save a man whose vehicle had fallen into a crater during a landslide near Lemieux, Ontario. Seeing the bloodied victim some twenty metres below, they climbed down using a rope and a chain tied around a tree. As the ground continued to move and collapse, a second landslide started, shifting the piece of earth they were standing on some thirty metres before coming to a stop. Any possibility of retreat was now gone; the three found themselves surrounded by mud and silt, with live electric wires close by. After more than an hour, a helicopter managed to rescue them and take them to hospital.
