Ronald Thomas LeBlanc, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
On July 12, 1971, sixteen-year-old Ronald Thomas LeBlanc rescued a six-year-old girl who had fallen into the channel and was being carried out to sea. While playing on the Morris Island bridge, the girl lost her footing and fell into the water. Alerted by one of the other children, Ronald Thomas LeBlanc climbed on the railing of the bridge and when the child surfaced again, he jumped fully-clothed to her rescue. The rescuer had to swim against the swiftly moving current while holding the child until he succeeded in reaching the shore. The little girl almost certainly owes her life to the prompt and courageous action of Ronald LeBlanc.
