On August 3, 1972, when a man was overcome by fumes while spray painting the interior of a 16- foot deep reservoir in Edmonton, Alberta, Roland Zelles, who happened to be on hand, was called on to try to move the man out of danger. With complete disregard for his own safety, Mr. Zelles descended to the bottom of the tank and, along with another workman, attempted to fasten a safety harness and rope around the victim. While doing this, he was himself overcome by the fumes and collapsed. Although he was unable to complete the rescue, his action was selfless and courageous.
