In Edmonton, Alberta on July 29, 1990, Messrs. Anderson and Dewhirst rescued a woman from a burning apartment. From across the street they observed smoke coming from the apartment and a woman on the balcony. They immediately entered the building and, as they proceeded to the apartment, alerted tenants to the danger. They forced open the locked door of the unit and entered despite the heavy smoke. Observing flames through the darkness, they quickly located the victim. Mr. Dewhirst, led by Mr. Anderson, brought her to safety. The two men re-entered the apartment, where Mr. Anderson attempted to put out the fire with an extinguisher and Mr. Dewhirst searched for other occupants. Members of the fire department then arrived and took charge.
