Christopher Patrick Amos, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
When a 3-year-old little girl fell into 10 feet of water at Creed's Landing, Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, one winter afternoon in 1969, she might very well have drowned if Christopher Amos, who was then 9 years old, had not jumped in after her. The little girl had followed the Amos brothers down to the wharf where they were looking for fish. Christopher told the child to go back and as she climbed the ramp, she stumbled and rolled under the guardrail into the water. The boy leaped in without removing his heavy duffle coat, caught the child as she rose to the surface and tried to keep both their heads above water. Treading water, he succeeded in reaching and holding on to the wharf, telling his small brother to go for help. Presently, the girl's mother arrived and pulled both children out of the water.
