Osmond Yorke braved a stormy sea to save the life of a fisherman who was thrown overboard near Cape Sharp on 18 May 1975. Pounding waves and a tidal rip having capsized their fishing boat, the man's mates had tried to swim to shore and were drowned. The man also took to the sea but returned to the boat and shouted for help. He was heard by Mr. Yorke who launched a motor- boat and ventured at considerable risk into the treacherous waters. Reaching the scene and carefully manoeuvring his craft into position, Mr. Yorke hauled the victim abroad. But for his prompt action and presence of mind the fisherman would have been lost.
