Star of Courage
On 22 July 1977 Robert Knorr and David Yablonski were drowned while trying to rescue two canoeists on the Isaac River in British Columbia. The canoeists had been attempting to avoid logs in the water when their craft hit one log side-on and overturned. The mishap was noticed on shore by Mr. Knorr and Mr. Yablonski, who at once went to their aid in their own canoe. Reaching the men, they threw them a rope, but it missed. Their craft was then drawn downstream, shifted sideways in the current, and tipped over. Through they struggled to stay afloat, the force of the current was too great and they sank below the surface. Meanwhile the two victims had managed to reach shore on their own and raced along the river to locate their would-be rescuers, but to no avail.
