On November 30, 1982, Anthony Eric Wiles saved a man from drowning in Digby Harbour following a traffic accident. The man's car skidded off the ice road and rolled down an embankment into the water. Anthony Wiles was travelling in the opposite direction when one of his passengers saw the car go off the road. Immediately, Mr. Wiles returned to the scene, dove into the frigid water and swam out to the victim, who was holding onto the roof of his rapidly sinking car. Unable to swim the panic-stricken man struggled with Mr. Wiles and both were pulled under the surface several times. After a great deal of effort, Anthony Wiles managed to safely bring the victim to shore.
