Medal of Bravery
On May 11, 1993, Messrs. Léonard and Trudel saved a woman from drowning in Rivière des Milles-Îles in Laval, Quebec. The woman, who was walking across a railway bridge over the river, heard shouts from two fishermen warning her to jump into the water to avoid an approaching train. She jumped into the river and Mr. Léonard, knowing the strength of the current at this location, immediately dived in to save her. Mr. Trudel jumped in as well, but neither he nor Mr. Léonard was able to bring the woman to the pillar. While Mr. Léonard kept the woman afloat, Mr. Trudel grabbed two pieces of styrofoam with which he pushed the two people to shore, where help had arrived.
