Medal of Bravery
Cst. Ronald Warren Elder and ambulance attendants Clifford Bethune, Norbert Leidl and Edward Worthing participated in the rescue of the driver of an overturned tanker truck near Wainright, Alberta, on September 24, 1988. The vehicle had jack-knifed into a ditch and gasoline flowed from the damaged tanker. The three ambulance attendants and Cst. Elder assisted another police constable in the removal of the unconscious driver. At one point the victim became lodged in the only available exit, trapping the other police constable in the cab. Messrs. Bethune, Leidl and Worthing, with the help of Cst. Elder, were eventually able to dislodge the unconscious man and bring him to safety.
