On June 18, 1986, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Maj. Gorden Wilfrid Lanctôt, a military chaplain, prevented the possible injury or death of four people. A serviceman's wife had contacted Father Lanctôt to tell him that her husband was armed and was leaving the Base. Father Lanctôt was going to alert the Military Police but saw the serviceman driving away and immediately followed him. Father Lanctôt called to a passing motorist to contact the R.C.M.P., who later joined the pursuit. Forced to stop at a dead end, the distraught serviceman pointed his rifle at an R.C.M.P. officer and at a farmer who was at the scene. Father Lanctôt convinced the serviceman not to shoot. The pursuit resumed but ended soon after the serviceman stopped his car and allowed Father Lanctôt to get inside. At this point, Father Lanctôt persuaded the serviceman to give himself up.
