- Awarded on: August 28, 1989
- Invested on: December 11, 1989
In Montreal, in the early afternoon of July 25, 1988, Mrs. Shirley Belle Viscusi, a nurse about fifty years old, lost her life as she tried to rescue a resident of an old people's home that was on fire. Noticing smoke coming from the upper level, Mrs. Viscusi immediately alerted the authorities while her assistant began to evacuate the ground floor. When she realized that one person was missing from the roll-call, she braved the smoke and ventured upstairs to find her. Unfortunately, Mrs. Viscusi perished in the fire.
