On November 29, 1988, at Belliveau Cove, Nova Scotia, Mr. Pius Joseph LeBlanc rescued a co-worker who was engulfed in flames. The victim was working in a garage pit, when a light bulb broke and ignited some gasoline on the pit floor. The flames quickly spread to engulf the whole pit. Seeing his co-worker's clothes were already in flames, Mr. LeBlanc immediately reached down into the pit and, with his bare hands, pulled the man out of the pit and helped drag him outside the garage. Mr. LeBlanc was seriously burned and the victim later died from his injuries.
