On 28 July 1982, eleven-year old John Allain saved a seven-year-old from drowning at Bosk Lake. Several children and two adults had gathered for an afternoon birthday party on the beach. One adult swam to the victim when the latter had slipped into deep water but soon found herself in difficulty and struggled to stay afloat with the boy in her arms. Though a poor swimmer, John resolved to intervene. With a rope tied round his waist he dog-paddled toward the two, carrying a life jacket in his arms. He pushed the life jacket under the boy, who could barely keep his head above water while holding on to his would-be rescuer, by this time floating face-down. John held them both as those close to shore pulled them in. Had it not been for John Allain's action, another life would almost certainly had been lost.
