Mr. Talbot pulled a man from a burning truck on Highway 589 near Thunder Bay, Ontario, on July 2, 1993. He happened on the scene of a collision and found the driver trapped inside the overturned, burning pickup truck. Without hesitating, Mr. Talbot reached into the fiery wreck and managed to unbuckle the driver's jammed seatbelt. The intense heat set his shirt on fire and he rolled on the ground to extinguish the flames. After removing the burning shirt and, despite his own injuries, he returned to the semi-conscious victim and began pulling him through the door window. Finally dislodging the man from the truck, Mr. Talbot dragged him to the roadside only minutes before the fuel tank exploded. Both men were hospitalized with extensive burns.
