Medal of Bravery
On May 2, 1994, Csts. Fortier and Verge of the Montreal Urban Community Police Department rescued a man from a burning house. When they were alerted to the fact that someone was inside, they immediately crawled in, with Cst. Fortier in the lead. Finding the man unconscious on the floor, they tried to get him out, but had to give up because of the thick black smoke and increasing heat. Cst. Verge then took over the effort and, with his colleague helping once again, succeeded in pulling the victim out of the house. The police officers administered first aid until the ambulance arrived.
