Blazon

Azure on the Sun in splendour Or a cross pattée alisée quadrate in the centre Azure a bar wavy in base and a chief wavy Or;

Symbolism

The blue and gold colours were chosen by Canon Roberts. The wavy bars represent a flag over water, referring to his many years as an accomplished yachtsman. The sun refers to Canon Roberts’ desire to assist others to “rise up”. The Canterbury cross represents his vocation as an Anglican clergyman.

Crest

Blazon

Issuant from a rim per fesse érablé-contre-érablé Or and Gules a pillow Azure thereon a domestic cat sejant Proper the dexter paw resting on a closed book erect bound Sable edged Argent clasped Or;

Symbolism

The circlet featuring maple leaves is a reference to Canon Roberts’ service to the Crown, first in the Armed Forces, and latterly as aide-de-camp to five Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario. It also alludes to the Empire Club of Canada, where Canon Roberts is a former president. Finally, seen as a ring, the circlet denotes commitment to serving others and to Canon Roberts’ dedicated efforts in promoting Canadian unity. The book refers to the power of the Word in Canon Roberts’ life, as a priest, public speaker and one who generates fellowship with his teachings. The cat was chosen by Canon and Mrs. Roberts as a favourite pet. It is also a reference to the motto, as Canon Roberts believes that cats share these qualities with him.
