Arms of the Association des Fortin d'AmériqueBlazonPer chevron Or and Gules a chevron barry wavy Azure and Argent between in chief a castle Gules between two escutcheons, that to the dexter Gules charged with two lions passant guardant in pale Or, that to the sinister Argent charged with three chevronels Gules, and in base a fleur-de-lis between a maple leaf and a mullet on stems conjoined in one spray Argent; SymbolismThe arms of the Association des Fortin d'Amérique include elements drawn from the arms of Normandy and of Perche, the original homelands of the Fortins. The fortress refers to the name Fortin and to the French word "fortin" meaning a small fort. The waves represent the immigration of the Fortin ancestors to New France and their crossing of the Atlantic on the way to their new homeland. The fleur-de-lis symbolizes France and French Quebec. The maple leaf refers to the Fortins now living in Canada, and the star, those now living in the United States. |
