Arms of the Nova Scotia Technical CollegeBlazonArgent on a fess wavy between in chief a thistle slipped and leaved Azure and in base in front of a miner’s and a mechanic’s hammer in saltire an electromagnet Sable the coils Azure all ensigned by a surveyor’s bob Sable, a salmon naiant Argent; SymbolismThe hammers, electromagnet and surveyor’s bob allude to the college’s mandate as a technical school, especially focusing on civil, electrical, mechanical and mining engineering. The thistle is taken from the Nova Scotia coat of arms, while the salmon on the wavy band appeared on the province’s coat of arms used between 1868 and 1929 as a reference to its maritime history. |
