Blazon

Sable a chevron Or between in chief two horses’ heads couped respectant and in base a saltire irradiated in its angles Argent;

Symbolism

The black shield and horses’ heads are a common feature of the arms of some Griffin families from Powys, Wales, and represent the Welsh ancestors of Mr. Griffiths. The gold tincture is a common feature of Corbet family arms and honours Mr. Griffiths’ ancestors of that name in Wales. The saltire with rays, alluding to the badge of The Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada, represents his role as its former commanding officer.

Symbolism

The griffin alludes to the surname. The raven is a common feature of Corbet family arms and honours Mr. Griffiths’ ancestors of that name in Wales. It is also a canting reference, corbeau being French for raven.

This phrase is a translation of an ancient Welsh motto. Its use by Mr. Griffiths indicates his belief in the truth in Welsh ancient oral family histories.
