Symbolism

Blue is a colour associated with policing, and represents Mr. Clifford’s service as a police officer. The doves symbolize peace. The Jerusalem cross represents Mr. Clifford’s faith and his policing service in the Holy Land.

The owl, as a symbol of wisdom, represents Mr. Clifford’s dedication to sharing knowledge to cadets in the Canadian Armed Forces and as an instructor at the Ontario and Canadian police colleges. The naval crown evokes his service as a naval reservist.

The bagpipe evokes Mr. Clifford’s avocation as Pipe Major of the Thunder Bay Police Pipe Band. The scallop shell, a symbol of pilgrimage, signifies his policing service in the Holy Land, while the laurel leaves evoke hopes of peace.
