Symbolism
The jaguar, taken from the arms of Guyana, symbolizes Mr. Chabrol’s birth in British Guiana. Green is the colour of the uniform of the Canadian Army. The swords represent his service in the Canadian Armed Forces. The ermine fur, being characteristically soft, represents the gentleness of Mr. Chabrol’s nature.

The swan, which is sometimes used to represent a learned person, alludes to Mr. Chabrol’s university degrees as well as his teaching profession. The swan also recalls the fact that in England, the Sovereign retains the ownership of these unmarked mute swans in open water as “Seigneur of the Swans”. It therefore alludes to his allegiance to the Crown. The maple leaves refer to his Canadian citizenship, and the crosses to his religious faith.
