Arms of Michel DoyonBlazonPer pale Azure and Or semé of annulets counterchanged, on a chief Argent a fleur-de-lis between two olive branches Azure; SymbolismThe rings and the symmetrical division of the shield illustrate the principle of equity, which His Honour has studied at length, and which he cherishes. The circle, a symbol of perfection, unity and infinity, is also a sign of partnership, in this case between his Honour and his fellow citizens. The fleur-de-lis honours Quebec. The branches symbolize peace, non-violence, strength and wisdom; made of olive, of which the oil has long served as fuel for lamps, they also refer to knowledge and the advancement of humankind through education. |
CrestBlazonA partridge close Azure crowned with a coronet flory and holding in its beak an annulet Or; SymbolismThe crowned partridge, which appears in the arms of the old province of Aunis, refers to the origins of the Doyon family who came from this region of France. It is also a symbol for sociability and solidarity. |
MottoBlazonRESPECT • ENGAGEMENT • ÉQUITÉ; SymbolismThese words, meaning “Respect, Engagement, Equity”, convey the fundamental belief of His Honour that it is incumbent on all citizens to conduct themselves respectfully and responsibly for the good of all. |
SupportersBlazonTwo dog-horses per fess nebuly Or and Azure each holding a rod ensigned with an annulet Or and resting on a stack of books, both standing on a wheat field proper; SymbolismFor His Honour, dogs are faithful and protective animals. The horses, which were rare in the early beginning of New France, symbolize the agricultural origins of the Doyon family in the countryside, as does the field of wheat. The batons recall that His Honour was, in turn, President (bâtonnier in French) of the Bar of Quebec City and of the Quebec Bar. The books refer to his university studies and denote the importance of education. |
