The blue from the arms of the kings of France symbolizes Mr. Roy’s surname (“king” in English). The colour also appears on the flag of the Carignan-Salières Regiment, with which his ancestor, Antoine Roy, served upon arriving in New France in 1665. The white triangular shape evokes the Champlain Peak in the municipality of Saint-Fabien, founded by Isaac Roy, one of Mr. Roy’s paternal ancestors, as well as Mount Royal and the town of the same name, where he has worked as a publisher for over 15 years. The ship and waves are taken from the arms of the Association des familles Roy d’Amérique and Quebec City, Mr. Roy’s place of birth. The waves also allude to the St. Lawrence River, which flows past the cities of Quebec, Montreal and Saint-Fabien. The yellow frieze is taken from the arms of Champagne, the birthplace of his ancestor Antoine Roy. The feathers, or quills, refer to Mr. Roy’s profession as a publisher.
