The inseparable pair allude to Mr. Woods’ astrological sign, Gemini, the twins. The seahorse represents confidence and power while the sea-stag represents love and gentility. The seahorse holds a staff of mulberry symbolizing duality and balance, while the sea-stag holds a staff of hawthorn for wisdom and expediency. The two staves of wood also provide a canting reference to Mr. Woods’ surname. |
