Arms of Joseph John PetozziBlazonOr billety Gules on a pale Gules a sword Argent hilt in chief, on a chief enarched Gules an annulus between two ducal coronets Argent; SymbolismThe shield suggests a basic oxygen furnace filled with red-hot steel billets, a reference to Mr. Petozzi’s long employment in the steel industry. The vertical division and enarched chief recall the arch and golden gates on the arms of the city of Pordenone, Italy, where Mr. Petozzi’s family originated. The coronets appear on the arms of Pordenone, and also represent Mr. Petozzi’s service as an Aide de Camp to the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario; their number represents his two daughters. The sword honours his service in the Canadian Forces. The white ring represents the iron ring worn by Canadian engineers as a symbol of professional responsibility. Red and white are also the colours of the Priory of Canada of the Venerable Order of St. John and of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Mr. Petozzi being an active member of both organizations. |

La division verticale et le chef voûté rappellent l’arche et les grilles dorées qui figurent sur les armoiries de la ville de Pordenone (Italie), foyer d’origine de la famille de M. Petozzi. Les couronnes, également inspirées des armoiries de la ville de Pordernone, évoquent les années de service de M. Petozzi comme aide-de-camp auprès du lieutenant gouverneur de l’Ontario. Leur nombre représente ses deux filles. L’épée est un hommage aux services qu’il a rendus au sein des Forces canadiennes. L’anneau blanc représente le jonc de métal que portent les ingénieurs canadiens, symbole de leur responsabilité professionnelle.
