Arms of the Town of MarystownBlazonVert a ship's wheel between three drops, on a chief wavy Or two barrulets wavy Vert; SymbolismThe green shield uses the historical colour of the town. The fishing schooner wheel alludes to the Town’s historic occupations of fishing and shipbuilding. The gold colour refers to the wealth derived from the sea (the waves) and from the “black gold” of oil (the drops). |

The lighthouse represents one used at the entrance to Marystown, and is a symbolic guardian over the development of the town. |

SupportersBlazonDexter a female fish-plant worker, sinister a male ship-fitter, both standing on a rock set with grass strewn with pitcher plants, white roses, shamrocks, and lilies, all proper; SymbolismThe supporters show the two main occupations of the town, a fish plant worker and a ship fitter, in typical garb. The compartment alludes to the original settlers from Ireland and England in the 1800’s, and the French and Basque fishermen in the 16th and 17th centuries. The lily also alludes to the Virgin Mary, after whom the town was named. The pitcher plant represents the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, while the rock outcropping represents the peninsula portion on which the town sits. |
