The open book indicates that this is an institute of higher education, and the upside-down canoe represents the name of the location of the university, Oshawa (meaning portage or carrying place). It also alludes to the idea of intellectual exploration. The division line represents energy, innovation and community. |

They are also an official symbol of Canada and represent excellence, energy and agility. The trillium flowers refer to Ontario. |
