Symbolism
The fleur-de-lis and the blue colour symbolize ancien régime France, the place of origin of the first Séguins. The central band represents the Atlantic Ocean that the ancestors crossed on their way to take root in America. The six bands perpendicular to the central one recall the first six Séguins who founded lines in New France (Charles, François, Guillaume, Jacques, Jean and Joseph). These bands also symbolize the St. Lawrence River and the first land grants made by the Seigneur of Boucherville on the Seigneury of Îles Percées, one of these grants being to François Séguin dit Ladéroute, the ancestor of most of the Séguins in America. The stylized comb shape refers to François’s trade as a weaver.

Meaning “Strength and generosity”, the Motto was chosen by the Association des Séguin. In the past as today, strength and generosity are essential values that the Séguins and their contemporaries exercised. Gérald Séguin proposed the motto.
