CrestBlazonA cougar queued of a dolphin Argent winged Azure, the wings charged with an atom of four orbits Argent, armed langued and collared Or, holding in its dexter paw a hammer Argent hafted Or resting on an anvil Azure and in its sinister paw a maple leaf Or; SymbolismThe cougar repeats the symbolism of the arms. The hammer and anvil allude to Mr. Van Horne’s grandfather, who owned a portable forge and loved to build things, a trait inherited by Mr. Van Horne. The cougar’s wings allude to the fact that Mr. Van Horne was once a private pilot. The tail is taken from the dolphin emblem of the Canadian Coast Guard, as is the maple leaf, indicative of his past service as an officer. The atom refers to Mr. Van Horne’s work in electronics, as a four-orbit atom is the symbol of this field of study. |
