Symbolism

The red background and white horse’s head allude to the unit that LCol Hobbs first joined, The Essex and Kent Scottish, whose regimental badge shows in part the white horse of Kent on a red field. The unicorn’s head alludes to the Toronto Scottish Regiment, which he now commands and the regimental badge of which shows such a head. The three gold stripes symbolize three ideas, of military rank, of an agrarian family origin in the form of ploughed rows, and of strings of bows to represent English longbows.
