Arms of Owen Frank Wright

Blazon

Azure a chevron between in chief two battle-axes and in base two eagle heads addorsed and conjoined at the neck Or;

Symbolism

The chevron represents the mountains near Mr. Wright’s home, while the battle axes refer to a principal charge in most of the Wright coats of arms granted by the Lord Lyon in Scotland, the homeland of Mr. Wright’s ancestors. The two eagle heads are a subtle reference to the historic emblem of the Tsars, whose coinage has long fascinated Mr. Wright, and to the eagles found widely in British Columbia.

Crest

Blazon

Issuant from a Saxon crown Azure a demi-horse Argent gorged with a collar Azure set with dogwood flowers Argent, supporting a pole Argent flying therefrom a pennant Azure charged with two battle-axes in saltire Or;

Symbolism

The Saxon coronet is a reference to a historical period that interests Mr. Wright very much. The white horse refers to the arms of the English County of Kent, where Mrs. Wright was born. The pennant with the “Wright” battleaxes symbolizes their joint love of yachting and the fact that they met through their interest in sailing. The dogwood flowers represent Mr. Wright’s home province.
