Symbolism

The upper portion symbolizes the two regions in France from which each ancestral family member originates. The castle on a red background, from the coat of arms of Poitou, represents the birthplace of Nicolas Audet. The ship on a red background, from the coat of arms of Paris, represents the Archdiocese of Paris, the place of origin of Madgeleine Desprès. Nicolas and Magdeleine met and married in Canada. The white chevron represents the ocean and the original crossing of the first ancestors. The chevron symbolizes both the simplified form of the letter “A,” which is the first letter in the name Audet, and a point, representing the name Lapointe. The lower portion represents a green and fertile land. It symbolizes the host country and the Île d’Orléans. The ten fleurs de lis represent the ten lines of descent from the union of Nicolas and Magdeleine, seven of which go by the names Audet and Lapointe.
