Blazon

Gules three piles reversed, on a chief Argent three billets Azure;

Symbolism

Red and white are the colours of Canada and of McGill University, and blue and white are the colours of Quebec, where Mr. Trister grew up. The white triangular shapes represent floodlights and, by extension, theatre and film entertainment. The design thus alludes to Mr. Trister’s professional association with the film industry. It also indicates his acting involvement with community theatre. The three blue rectangular shapes represent Canadian passports, an indication of Mr. Trister’s field of specialization in immigration law.

Crest

Blazon

A demi horse Argent crined and unguled Azure, charged on the shoulder with a trillium Gules and supporting a spear flory Argent hafted Gules;

Symbolism

The horse is a strong, dependable, hardworking and versatile creature. The trillium is a symbol of Ontario, Mr. Trister’s province of residence. The spear is taken from the arms of the city of Trieste in Italy, the home of Mr. Trister’s ancestors, and a possible source of the surname. The distinctive spearhead also alludes to the province of Quebec.
