This design is derived from the Scottish grants to other Patersons which use three pelicans in their piety. Here, a chief holds three symbolic golf balls dropping into the cups. These represent the interest shared by at least three generations of Patersons in the game of golf, beginning with Mr. Paterson’s grandfather in Scotland.
