Her poetry is represented by the quill pen, while the paintbrush symbolizes her accomplishments as a painter. |

The coronet of fish refers to Pisces, her astrological sign. Her favourite animal is the cat, whose wings here are an allusion to bat wings and hence to her name. The flute refers to Dr. Batts’s love of music. |
