Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, presented a total of 62 Meritorious Service Decorations (Military Division), including 7 Meritorious Service Crosses (M.S.C.) and 55 Meritorious Service Medals (M.S.M.), during a ceremony at Rideau Hall on Thursday, November 9. Three recipients received the Meritorious Service Medal for the second time.
Created by Queen Elizabeth II, the Meritorious Service Decorations recognize great Canadians for exceptional deeds accomplished over a limited period of time that bring honour to our country. They honour achievements in both military and civil divisions. The Meritorious Service Decorations (Military Division) may also recognize members of foreign armed forces who serve with, or alongside, the Canadian Armed Forces.
Along with the Order of Military Merit, they are central elements of the Canadian Honours System, which also includes the Order of Canada, the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers and the Decorations for Bravery.
All recipients share a desire to help others, to achieve excellence and to contribute to their communities and to Canada.
