Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, visited the Metro Vancouver region, including Surrey, North Vancouver and Vancouver from February 21 to 22, 2020.

Upon arrival in Metro Vancouver, the Governor General met with faculty and students from Simon Fraser University and engaged in a question and answer session with students. She then met with residents of the YWCA Alder Gardens.

The Governor General met with first responders dealing with the opioid overdose crisis and visited a safe injection site. She then met with the five teens who saved a young boy who was dangling from a chairlift on Grouse Mountain, and presented them with Governor General's Coins. Afterwards, Her Excellency skated with members of the community as part of her GGactive initiative. In the evening, she delivered remarks at the Vancouver 2010 10th Anniversary Gala.
